Fryeburg Rescue ~ serving the Maine towns of Fryeburg, Brownfield, Stow, Lovell,
& Chatham, New Hampshire since 1971
*50 YEARS OF CARING FOR OUR COMMUNITY!*
Fryeburg Rescue is a non-profit organization providing Emergency Medical Services to the Maine towns of Fryeburg, Brownfield, Stow, Lovell, and Chatham, New Hampshire, since 1971.
We currently operate three ambulances and a rescue unit, providing support and equipment for wilderness and waterway extrication. In addition, we maintain a boat for river and lake water rescues and a side-by-side UTV outfitted with wheels or tracks depending on the season and equipped to safely carry and allow for patient care during wilderness rescue situations.
Our service is inspected and licensed by the States of Maine and New Hampshire. All members are licensed by the State of Maine at levels including First Responder, EMT (Emergency Medical Technician), Advanced EMT (AEMT) and Paramedic (EMTP). Some of our members are also Nationally Registered (NR) and some are State of New Hampshire licensed as well. We have a minimum of two personnel on call 24 hours a day with at least one person staffed at the station from, at minimum, 8:00 am to 5:00 pm, seven days a week. In addition, many of our members continue to volunteer their time by responding to calls ahead of, or with the duty crew and staffing additional ambulances as needed.
Our call volume has consistently grown incrementally over the years. We responded to a total of 671 calls in 2011 while in 2019 we responded to a total of 915 calls, a 36% increase and a 5% increase over 2018 when we responded to 871 calls. In 2021 we responded to a record 1074 calls for service for the first time in a calendar year. We use this data, in part, to adjust scheduling and staffing and as a tool for evaluating and updating our service to suit the changing needs of our community.
The majority of our responses were located in Fryeburg followed by Brownfield, Lovell, Chatham, and Stow.
We respond to emergency 911 calls only and may be medical or trauma in nature as well as in a support capacity for our fire and police colleagues in situations such as a structure fire or a welfare check. We also provide mutual aid to assist neighboring communities in times of high demand. We do not perform scheduled transfers or provide non-emergent transport services.
We continually strive to adapt to the communities needs and expectations while preparing for the future. As always, we thank you for your continued trust and support.
