Fryeburg Rescue is a non-profit organization providing Emergency Medical Service to the Maine towns of Fryeburg, Brownfield, Stow, & Lovell, and Chatham, New Hampshire. Currently operating three ambulances and a rescue unit which provides support equipment such as extrication tools or "jaws of life" and wilderness rescue equipment. In addition, we maintain a boat for river and lake water rescues and a side-by-side UTV equipped to safely carry and allow for patient care during wilderness rescue situations. Our service is inspected and licensed by the States of Maine and New Hampshire. All members are licensed by the State of Maine at levels including First Responder, EMT (Emergency Medical Technician), Advanced EMT and Paramedic. Some of our members are also Nationally Registered (NR) and some are State of New Hampshire licensed as well. We have a minimum of two personnel on call 24 hours a day with at least one person staffed at the station from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm, seven days a week. In addition, many of our members continue to volunteer their time by responding to calls ahead of, or with the duty crew and staffing additional ambulances as needed.
Our call volume has consistently grown incrementally over the years. We responded to a total of 671 calls in 2011 while in 2016 we responded to a total of 888 calls, more than 32% increase in 4 years. We respond to emergency calls only; we do not perform scheduled transfers or provide non-emergency transport services.
Some statistics gleaned from the state reporting system implemented
April 1, 2017 show:
- Fryeburg Rescue responded to 841 calls in that time period.
- Saturday between noon and 9pm was our busiest time.
- 29% of our patients were under 30 years old
- 25% of our patients were 30 to 60 years old
- 27% of our patients were over 60 years old
- 19% of our patients were over 80 years old
